Taking Something: Making it into Something Else

Altered art is taking anything, any old object, and turning it into an art piece. Anything from a children's board book right up to huge art installations. Something like Tracy Emin's famous "Unmade Bed" piece would count as altered art -- an assemblage of old objects that, together, make a whole new piece of art. Obviously, we at Pulling On The Glitz aren't expecting you to make anything of that scale, so the Turner Prize probably remains out of your reach. Follow the rules: then break them all However, we can offer Bare Bitz books, canvasses and boxes of many different sizes, clipboards, wooden plaques and shapes, jigsaw puzzle blanks and any number of other accessories and pieces to create altered art objects. And, of course, we can help and advise you about using techniques such as collage with materials like papers and vellums, buttons, stickers and ephemera. "Ephemera" means found objects and we can offer you ephemera like miniature postcards, stamps, Chinese coins, brass charms, slide mounts… and we can show you how to adapt all these things into the creation of unique altered art pieces. Taking Something: Making it into Something Else You can use any tool you currently use for card-making, scrapbooking or other creative pastimes. Altered art is easy – it is simply taking any object and making it more meaningful to you.

NB: Full payment must accompany your booking, or within 1 week.

We regret that we cannot refund payment on a workshop unless we are given 24 hours notice, as it is unlikely that we will be able to resell your place. If you are ill or unable to attend a workshop, please let us know as soon as possible.
